WELCOME TO CUTLERS LANE

SOUTHAMPTON MARITIME

This layout  represents the Freightliner depot at Southampton Maritime, about 15 miles from my home. I chose to model this location, as it seemed to be quite a compact facility, and I am also very fond of the Freightliner corporate colour scheme. It is appropriate also as this year Freightliner celebrates its 40th Anniversary. The layout is not true to scale, but hopefully shows all the main features within the constraints of an 8ft by 2ft baseboard. My intention is to incorporate this depot into a much larger layout, featuring a full set of sidings with intermodal cranes. (

23rd JANUARY

This is the scene I'm trying to portray - much of which will have to be scratch built. These shots show the variety of lifting equipment and the general untidy look!

7th April - How the time flies!

Thought it about time I added some new pictures.

A general view from the throat end with the refuelling point waiting its next customer

13th November 2005
I've made quite a bit of progress since last time. The ballasting is complete,as is the storage set-up at the west end. I'll have to paint the containers and look out some old style Freightliner transfers. As reported elsewher, I managed to get pictures of the Fuel Point, and so have attempted to model it - I don't think its too bad, and I still have work to do on it.

1st November 2005

So then - here we go! I haven't been idle since I last wrote here, in fact I've been busy re-allocating this layout.I now have two boards raised 5" above the Millbrook end of Cutlers Lane, at the back of my workshop. It's a good working height, and everything below is well protected. The two 4ft boards are now together and I have the track layout in position. I have just sufficient room for a headshunt that will hold a Class 66, so I can have a limited amount of operation on this reduced size.I've also made mock-ups of the fuelling point and the prominent containers that are used as storage, and put the dividing fence into position. I need to get some more detailed photos of the fuelling point area, so will pay a photographic visit at the end of the week.
Here are a few pictures to show progress so far - plenty of colour with all the containers (printed on my computer!)
I can't resist adding some rolling stock at this stage - just to get the impression! Guess I'll have to stow it all away before I start ballasting.

The story so far!

These and other photos are also at the foot of the OMWB pages, but now Ill continue the saga here!
